Embracing a Multi-Passionate Life: why being a "Jack or Jill of all trades" is not so bad after all

Updated: Aug 24

As someone who has always been multi-passionate, my journey has been anything but a straight line.

Drawn by my background of growing up on a farm and my passion for science, I began my professional life in veterinary medicine.

In this demanding field, precision and dedication are paramount.

Yet, alongside my work with animals, I discovered yoga and meditation—practices that became essential to my well-being. Over time, these interests grew into something more, leading me to become a certified yoga teacher and a mental health first aider. Today, I offer a unique blend of science, movement and spirituality through "Find Your Moment Together," where I focus on supporting women in various life transitions.

The Challenges of Being Multi-Passionate

Navigating a path that incorporates such diverse interests has not been without its challenges. People are often sceptical when they encounter someone who defies the traditional mould of a single-track career.

There have been times when I have faced criticism for moving away from a strictly scientific background to embrace practices that are tailored to the people doing the work, not just the work itself.

Some questioned my credibility, wondering how one could embrace veterinary medicine, yoga, and mental health advocacy without losing depth or expertise.

Yet for me, excellence and true high performance lie in the individual, 360 degrees, and it's not just based on their work output.

Dealing with Criticism

I've learned that criticism is inevitable in pursuing a multi-passionate life. The key is not to let it undermine your confidence or dedication. My diverse experiences—from working in veterinary clinics to leading yoga classes and facilitating mental health workshops—have enriched my understanding and ability to serve others.

It's crucial to remember that expertise can be broad and varied; it is not confined to a single discipline. I stand by the value of my work, knowing that my unique blend of skills provides a different approach that benefits and empowers the women and the animal patients that I support.

Finding Your Moment Together

Through "Find Your Moment Together," I aim to offer support to women at various stages of life, through movement, presence and self-agency, helping individuals discover their own transformative journeys.

While criticism and outdated ideas about career paths can pose challenges, they should not deter anyone from embracing a life rich in diverse passions.

Being multi-passionate is about loving all facets of yourself and finding ways to integrate them meaningfully. For anyone feeling torn between different interests, hit reply and let me know where you are at in your journey!
